திரை கடல் ஓடியும் திரவியம் தேடு என்னும் ஒளவையார் மொழிக்கேற்ப, நாம் சொந்த மண்ணை விட்டு திரவியம் தேட அயல் நாட்டிற்கு வந்து வாழ்ந்தாலும் பெற்றது, இழந்தது பலவாகும்!

உறவுகள், உணவுகள்,பண்டிகைகள்,நட்புகள் என எண்ணிக்கை நீண்டு கொண்டே போகும்போதுதான் 'செர்கமே என்றாலும் அது நம்ம ஊர்போலாகுமா' என்ற பாடல் நினைவிற்கு வருகிறது.

இந்த பிரிவு ஒரு வழிதான், தாய் மொழியும் இல்லா சூழ்நிலை அதனினும் அதிக வலி!

'பகுத்துண்டு பல் உயிர் ஓம்புதல்' என்ற வாழ்வின் உயர் நெறிகளையும், வாழ்வியலையும் கற்பிக்கும் நம் தமிழ். அத்தகு செம்மொழியை அடுத்த தலைமுறைக்கும் கற்று கொடுத்து அவர்களையும் ஆற்றல் மிக்க தலைமுறையாக உருவாக்கி, வையத்தலைமை கொண்டு அறத்தை தழைத்தோங்கிட செய்வது நம் அனைவரின் தலையாய கடமையாகும்.

ஆகையால் இங்குள்ள குழந்தைகளும் தமிழ் கற்க வேண்டும் என்ற வேட்க்கையோடு, பெரும் முயற்சி மேற்கொண்டு இரக்பில் 2016 ம் ஆண்டு தாய்த்தமிழ் பள்ளி தொடங்கப்பட்டது. நம் அரும்புகளும், மொட்டுகளும் தமிழ் பள்ளிக்கு ஆர்வமாய் வந்து தமிழ் கற்று அழகாக நம்மிடையேயும், நம் உறவுகளிடமும் தாய்மொழியில் உறவாடுவது முன்பு கூறிய வலியைக் குறைப்பதோடு மனதிற்கு பெரும் ஆறுதலையும், ஆனந்தத்தையும் அளித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது.

மேலும் அவர்கள், தமிழ் சங்கங்கள் நடத்தும் பேச்சுப்போட்டிகளில் கலந்து கொண்டு ,மழலை மொழியிலும், வள்ளுவத்தையும்,பாரதியின் மொழியையும் பேசும் போது மகிழ்ச்சி வெள்ளம் பெருக்கெடுக்கிறது.

அப்படி நாளொரு மேனியும் பொழுதொரு வண்ணமுமாக வளர்ந்து ஐந்து வருடம் கடந்தாகிவிட்டது.பள்ளியும், பயிலும் மாணவர்களும் மென்மேலும் வளர்ந்து வாழ்வில் பீடு நடை போட தாய்த்தமிழ் சங்கம் மனதார வாழ்த்துகிறது. இவ்வேளையில் தாய்த்தமிழ் பள்ளி இயங்க உறுதுணையாக இருந்த திரு பிரசன்னா வேலாயுதம், திருமதி. கலா பிரசன்னா, திருமதி. அகிலா கணேசன், திருமதி.செல்வி மது , திருமதி. சொர்னபிரபா கில்பர்ட், திருமதி.வினோதினி செந்தில், திரு.செந்தில் முத்துசாமி மற்றும் திருமதி.பிரியா பிரபு அவர்களுக்கு எங்கள் மனமார்ந்த நன்றிகள்.

"Go forth across the ocean to gain wealth” - a line from the great Tamil poet Avvaiyaar - is a saying much of us have followed. We migrated miles away from our birthplace to follow our profession and our sense of adventure. We have paid a huge cost for this. We have left behind out family and friends, our kith and kin, we have compromised on our delicious native food, missed the vibrancy of colorful festivals, and a lot more! This reminds us of a famous Tamil movie song “Swargame endralum athu namma oora polavaruma" (Translated as - "even if we were in heaven, would it be like living in our native land?").

The yearning for our homeland is further enhanced by our inability to talk as often in our mother tongue. The great Tamil literary works teach us how to live a good life while defining the many virtues by which we must live our day-to-day lives. For example -“Share your wealth and food by treating and respecting all the creatures same”

It is the duty of each one of us Tamilians, to transfer the knowledge of such wisdom and for that matter, the Tamil language itself to our next generation. This would give them a perspective of their cultural roots, making them more confident in themselves and help them to overcome many challenges that come with diverse modern life. It will also bring out the excellence of character and the uprightness of one’s conduct. To achieve these objectives, the Tamil school was set up in 2016, with support from many volunteers. Since then children from different age groups have been learning Tamil with great interest. They are not only able to have Tamil conversations, but have become confident enough to have conversations in Tamil with their grandparents bringing a lot of happiness to them and some consolation to us.

Over the last year, they have started participating in speech competitions conducted by other regional Tamil Sangams. The content of their speeches punctuated by quotes from Thirukural, and lines from the venerated poet Bharathiyar’s poems, as well as the manner of their preparation, have astounded us and made us immensely proud!

The Tamil school has grown slowly but steadily and completed almost five years. TTS conveys its sincere wishes to the parents for their dedication in supporting their children to learn Tamil so that they can continually progress and come out with flying colors.

TTS wishes to record its debt of gratitude to the several Tamil class coordinators and teachers who have over the years supported the Tamil class from its inception to the present, including Mr.Prasanna Velayutham, Mrs Kala Prasanna, Mrs Akila Ganesan, Mrs Selvi Mathu, Mrs Sornaprabha Gilbert, Mrs Vinothini Senthil, Mr. Senthilkumar Muthusamy and Mrs Priya Prabhu.
